Gods of Midgardhur

Gods of Midhgardhur

The cosmology of the DCC version of Heroes of Midhgardhur is based on Norse mythology, and the general picture can be painted in broad, bold strokes. The basic cosmology is as follows:

  • Lawful – The gods of the Aesir are the guardians of the lawful order of the world that favors human life and society. These gods safeguard mortal affairs, as best they can, and seek to stave off the great prophesied catastrophe of Ragnarokkur, the end of the world and triumph of the Jotnar. Some Jotnar and Vanir have joined forces with the Aesir in Law.
  • Neutral – The ancient gods known as the Vanir, the gods most closely associated with Nature and fertility, help maintain the great Balance. They are the patrons of the world for its own sake. Some Jotnar have left their kind to ally with the Vanir, such as Skadhi. The Nornir, goddesses of fate, also serve the Balance of Neutrality.
  • Chaos – The chaotic forces of the elements are ancient and primeval. They spawned the Jotnar, the Giants, ancestors and enemies of the gods. The Jotnar seek to undo Creation itself, to burn down the World Ash tree Yggdrasill and remake the Nine Worlds in their own, chaotic image. The Jotnar seek allies in their wars against each other and the gods, and can be patons and allies of mortals. Many of the monsters that plague the world of Midhgardhur are the spawn or kin of the Jotnar. Some gods, such as the Aesir Loki and Hel, have sided with chaos.
